How Long will Meat Stay Fresh in the Refrigerator?
Please tell me – How long will meat stay fresh in the refrigerator!!?
This is a very good question and one that many people simply don’t know the answer to. Sure, most people will find out that meat has gone bad – when it’s too late. In addition, some people eat meat that has been stored in their refrigerator only to find that they become ill. The meat didn’t look bad or smell bad. What happened?
The best advice is something we have all heard: It’s better to be safe than sorry!
First of all, make sure your refrigerator is working properly and is keeping your food at a constant 40 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are sure of this you cooked meat (including fish and chicken) will be fine for three days, maybe four.
Raw meat that has been processed (hamburger, raw sausage and other ground meats) will be OK for a day or two. Packaged, unopened meats (lunch meat, hot dogs) will usually be fine for 10 days to two weeks.
Look at the expiration dates on packages and don’t take chances. If the meat is leftover from a meal, toss it after three days. This should keep everyone healthy and safe.
